Principles of Healing

When people speak about being a channel for healing, it is important that we begin simply.

A channel is not the power.
It never was the power.
It never will be.

A channel is merely the means through which something greater is allowed to act.

The mistake people often make is to imagine that healing depends upon their personality, their sensations, or their interpretation of what is taking place. It does not.

Healing depends upon law-governed forces being allowed to operate without interference.

Harry Edwards often said that the healer does not heal.

The healer prepares the conditions in which healing can take place.

That preparation has very little to do with technique.
It has everything to do with character, stillness, and sincerity.

When the mind is restless, when the emotions are dominant, when the desire to achieve or impress is present, the channel becomes distorted. The healing influence is not withdrawn — but it is obstructed.

If we were to ask Harry what it means to be a channel.

He would tell us that it means to stand aside. Not to disappear, not to become passive but to remove oneself from the foreground of the work.

The healer must be fully present in the body, calm, grounded, and attentive — and yet empty of personal agenda. When the healer’s personality steps forward, the healing influence steps back.

This is not philosophy.
It is observable fact.

Attunement is essential. Attunement is not something dramatic or mysterious. It is simply the condition in which the mind is quiet enough and the intention sincere enough for higher intelligence to be recognised.

You may think of it as tuning a receiver if you wish — but remember this: the transmission is always present.

The only task is to remove the static.

Some healers notice sensations — warmth, coolness, tingling, movement, stillness. This is quite natural. But Harry cautioned strongly against attaching meaning to such experiences. Sensation does not equal authority.

The healer is not there to diagnose, interpret, or explain the client’s condition. The moment you begin to tell the patient what you believe is happening, you interfere with their own healing intelligence.

Notice what you notice —and then let it go.

Healing is not performance. It is presence.

The quieter the healer becomes inwardly, the clearer the channel. The clearer the channel, the more precisely intelligence can act.

The quality of the healer’s inner state determines the quality of the healing work.

It isn’t about what you feel. It isn’t about what you see, but how little you interfere.

Healing is not the same as curing. Harry never promised cures, and we shouldn’t either. Healing may express itself as peace, relief, balance, emotional release, or renewed strength — even when a condition remains. Healing works with the whole person, not merely the symptom.

And spiritual healing must always work alongside medical and psychological care, never in opposition to it. Harry welcomed science throughout his life, he did not fear it.

All healing begins with thought. Not casual thought — but a thought directive.

This is a focused appeal, issued when the physical mind is calm and present, and the spiritual mind is receptive and aligned. When that condition is achieved, law-governed forces are set in motion. As Harry wrote:

“Spirit healings result from law-governed forces being put into operation following the emission of a thought directive.”

The healer does not decide the outcome.
The healer does not choose the method.
The healer appeals — and intelligence responds.

You do not need to believe anything in particular to be a healer.

You need sincerity.
You need humility.
And you need the willingness to stand aside.

Anyone who is motivated enough, ethical enough, and honest enough can develop into a good healer.

But the real work of becoming a channel does not happen in the healing session.

It happens in how you live, how you think, how you treat others and how honestly you face yourself.

If Harry were to leave you with one thought about healing, it would be this:

The more you try to heal, the less healing you allow.

Become still.
Become sincere.
Become useful.

When the channel is clear, the healing power requires no instruction.

It already knows what to do.
