What is the fawn response?

Fawning is an unconscious trauma response where you seek safety through submission, appeasement, and people-pleasing.

It’s not a personality flaw or a conscious choice. It’s a survival strategy that got wired in early and never got unwired.

Could this be you?

  • Saying yes when your whole body says no.

  • Using emojis to soften a text so you don’t sound too direct.

  • Shrinking so someone else feels comfortable.

  • Undercharging for your work.

  • Over-apologising when you’ve done nothing wrong.

  • Shrinking around authority figures or feeling ‘small’

The tricky thing about fawning is that society rewards every single one of these in women.

Suffer in silence. Prioritise everyone else. Keep quiet and carry on.

Which is why fawning is so hard to catch. Because on the surface it looks like kindness. It looks like humility. It looks like your personality.

But fawning is not who you are, and it can be unlearned…
